About the Group

Chesham TUG was set up by Chesham Town Council in 2010 following a Public Meeting in the Town Hall which was convened in order to show the strength of public opinion against plans put forward at the time by Transport for London (TfL) to close the Chesham Branch on the Metropolitan Line. As well as Chesham, the Group looks after the interests of passengers using the stations at Chalfont & Latimer and Amersham too, in the absence of a similar Group at those locations.

Chesham TUG is also a member of FOMLUC (The Federation of Metropolitan Line Users Committee) which is composed of similar passenger user groups along the Met Line and we have regular meetings with members of senior management at TfL regarding operational issues which affect us all.

Our greatest success to date has been persuading TfL to install Step-Free Access at Amersham Station to help the physically disabled, the elderly and mothers & babies access both northbound and southbound platforms easily and safely. This was achieved with the assistance of Amersham Action Group and an official opening ceremony took place on 29th June 2021 organised by Cllr. Mimi Harker, a former Mayor of Amersham and a County Councillor who was a member of both Groups.

In addition to Met Line services, the Town Council tasked us with protecting and enhancing local bus and taxi services. With regard to the former, we have regular meetings with the bus companies and the Head of Transport at Buckinghamshire Council and with regard to the latter, we have been working with the local MS Group and the County Council’s Licensing Team in an effort to secure the provision of fully Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles in Chesham and Amersham, as at present they can only be found in Aylesbury and High Wycombe.
